Today we are proud to spotlight ISCDT Graduate Jay Elfman. Jay successfully completed ISCDT’s online course and in-person internship program. Upon graduation he received the title Certified Dog Trainer, Proficient Skill & Comprehension from our school.
We were eager to learn what he’s been up to since graduating and reached out to him for the spotlight.
ISCDT: We heard you started your own dog training company. What’s the name of your company?
JAY: I own Top Dog Training on Long Island.
ISCDT: Congratulations! Do you have a website where potential clients can find you?

ISCDT: You’re based on Long Island, New York. What areas do you service for dog training?
JAY: I cover Queens, Nassau County and New York City.

We want our readers to get to know a little about you. Here are some personal questions.
ISCDT: When did you know you wanted to become a dog trainer?
JAY: I realized it when I began volunteering at North Shore Animal League
ISCDT: Many of us caught the bug while helping dogs find homes. The time spent with homeless animals is priceless. The interaction is so good for them. Naturally, it makes us feel good too. It is obvious how much you love animals. We are delighted that you chose ISCDT’s dog trainer’s program to help you achieve your goals. What did you liked best about ISCDT?
JAY: Definitely the real time shadowing.
ISCDT: What is your favorite dog training book?
JAY: On Talking Terms with Dogs: Calming Signals.
ISCDT: We agree it is a great book. The book provides great insight into how dogs communicate. In a perfect world every dog owner and every person working with dogs would read it. We added this book to our required reading list to ensure new trainers were familiar with it. We are delighted that you list it as a favorite read.

ISCDT – Dog Trainer School
If you are considering a career in dog training, ISCDT offers an online program featuring 18 hands-on lessons where students are required to work with dogs. Skill and ability is determined through a series of videos and short written homework that is submitted to your personal ISCDT mentor. ISCDT also offers a one or two-week in-person Shadow program.
